Be Prepared for Anything-This is Vermont
June 1, 2017
By Jared Pendak, Valley News Staff Writer
Hanover — Some of the Upper Valley’s most prominent charities
deal with serious issues such as homelessness, domestic violence and
children receiving intensive care treatment.
At the Covered
Bridges Half Marathon, those organizations have been able to run the
picturesque course while uniting to raise vital funding.
Now in
its 26th year, the race has long donated much of its proceeds to
municipal and youth groups in the area. For the last 13 years, it also
has welcomed charity teams, whose members are exempt from the popular
race’s lightning-quick registration fill-up in exchange for pledging to
raise money for the organizations they represent.

Thank you Upper Valley Running Club
For Volunteering to Pace the CBHM Runners
The Upper Valley Running Club is excited to have provided pacers since the 2015 Covered Bridges Half Marathon. The UVRC pacers are a group of experienced, local runners that will be with you during the race to help you reach your race day goal. Whether you are finishing your first half marathon or hoping to set a new personal record, run with a pacer to help make it happen.
The pacers will be at the Race Start (Suicide Six Ski Area) in the starting corral roughly 15 minutes before the start of the race. This will give you a chance to talk to them, learn more about the plan, and ask any questions that you might have. They'll be wearing brightly colored shirts or vests that say PACER and holding signs with their goal time, they will be hard to miss.

Anyone who wants to run with one of the pace groups is welcome to do so; they ARE NOT doing one-on-one pacing and there's no need to sign-up.
Basically The PACERS job is to encourage and cheer people on, and to run at a consistent pace so other runners can gauge their own progress.

Covered Bridges Half Marathon is not only the BEST 13.1 miles in New England, we bet we have the best volunteers supporting our race.
Just take a look at all these groups that you support with your race entry fee. When you see them on course, be sure to say HI and thank them. We couldn't run this race without them and we think your race experience would be quite different too.

Hanover — If anyone could survive cancer, the thinking went, it had to be Maribel Sanchez Souther.
A former Dartmouth College All-American track and cross country runner, Big Green coach and a mother of three known for passionate involvement with her family and her adopted hometown, the 41-year-old Hanover resident was the picture of physical and emotional determination.
She completed the local Covered Bridges Half Marathon in an hour and 37 minutes just two days before undergoing a 2015 mastectomy.
